I began my professional life as a modern language teacher in primary and secondary schools (French, German ). I later added others to my repertoire, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Greek. I had planned to be a teacher of many languages. Fate took me along a different path….
I recognized early on that a significant number of children in class were too preoccupied with stuff going on at home to concentrate on their learning in school. Behaviour and attendance would be erratic; I felt that they needed and deserved help and support before much learning could happen.
